When my schedule became too insane to make time for blogging, I figured the blog hiatus would be temporary, and as usual, I would pick it back up when life calmed a bit. Only, this time, when life calmed, I found I had very little to say.
As social networking picks up more and more momentum, I find that I am less and less inclined to share my silly little thoughts or simple goings-on. I rarely visit Facebook, but when I do, I am often sickened by the self-importance that is shamelessly paraded for all to see.
And so, I am seriously considering putting an end to the blog. I haven't quite made up my mind, but I hope to make my decision soon.

I understand what you are saying. I find the constant noise of social media to be annoying. Everyone thinks they're important. A lot of people think their blog or their Twitter feed or whatever is somehow going to make them famous or give them their big break. I find that amidst all the noise, I myself am getting quieter.
ReplyDeleteBut, I will miss your blog if you kill it. I know you don't post often, but I'm always so happy when I come to your blog and find something new. I get a little piece of you every now and then and it makes me smile. It's a way of keeping in touch. I think the key is to ignore all the noise and all the people saying that you're supposed to be doing something bigger and better with your blog and just write what you want to write when you want to write. I'll be reading.
Thank you so much for writing, Theresa. I've been going back and forth since I wrote this post, and your words have helped me decide to keep the blog going.
ReplyDeleteLong before the popularity of Facebook and Twitter, I created my blog to keep in touch with family and friends as I transitioned from life in New Orleans to life here in DC. (Sadly, many of those posts were lost when I had to change hosts.) And though there are only a handful of you that are regular readers, I really enjoy keeping you up to date on what's going on in my life.
So, I will continue to post to A Document of Days.
Thanks for reading!
Thank you Theresa, my sentiments exactly.
